Business Requirement

The requirement was to build a platform for video conferencing based consultations between patients and doctors/clinicians along with a virtual waiting room to accommodate delays for an appointment. Also, an online prescription component was to be integrated to maintain prescriptions of each consultation.

SOLUTIONS
  • Video conferencing between users was set up using Twilio.
  • ePrescribe platform was integrated to enable online prescriptions.
  • The system was developed using ReactJS frontend that communicates with AWS API Gateway.
  • Serverless style of development was incorporated.
  • AWS Lambda functions were used for data access. This was done using GraphQL as the query language and the data was resident on AWS DynamoDB.
  • The architecture enabled high availability and high scalability by making use of cloud-based services.

IMPACT
  • Virtual care reduces the risk of patients and providers from the exposure to those that may be ill. Also, it offers patients the opportunity to receive immediate care so that they can quickly be on the road to recovery.
  • Virtual care offers healthcare access to those in rural areas.
  • It also offers patients who are in a chronic condition and are at high risk, to connect with their provider on a regular basis to stay healthy.
